1- Iran Deserts Guide

Top Iran Deserts to Travel. People all over the world often think that the weather in Iran is hot and dry. Actually, this might not be the wrong picture. This is because about a third of Iran is made up of desert. The country has two large deserts and many smaller ones. Iran is home to many different kinds of unique wild places.

Iran has a subtropical climate, so deserts cover large parts of the country. Dasht-e Kavir, Rig-e-Jen, Dasht-e Lut, Maranjab, Tabas, Bafgh, Shahdad, and Sargardan Island are some of the best-known deserts in Iran. If you like nature, you should try to visit at least one of Iran’s many deserts.

2- Iran Deserts Activities

Deserts everywhere offer the same kinds of things to see and do. In almost all of Iran’s deserts, some of the most fun things to do are camping, Safari, Desert Trekking, Camel Riding, Photography, Stargazing, Sand Bathing, Singing around the Fire, and, most importantly, Four-wheeled Motoring.

One of the top things to do in the Iran desert is to go on a safari and learn about the area. Camel riding is also very popular. You’ll feel like you’ve gone back in time to when caravans traveled.

The night sky in the Iran desert is so clear and dark that it looks like the stars are above your head. The golden sands of the desert are a beautiful place to watch the sun rise and set, so it’s great for photographers.

It’s a great, relaxing way to soak in warm, soft sand. This can be done anywhere the sand is smooth enough for this play. Also, getting together by the FireFire is a special touch to your trip. It might be an evening get-together with your other travelers by the FireFire and singing the songs.

The four-wheeled motor is a popular recreational vehicle in the desert and along the coast because it lets people drive in the desert and across the sands of the dune.

3- List of Top 8 Iran Deserts

Deserts are among the most visually stunning places in the world. Their beauty will always be there, and you can see life in everything here. However, due to the high temperatures, must-see Iranian deserts are almost off-limits during the warmer summer months. Therefore, the best time to visit most deserts in Iran is in the fall and spring.

1- Dasht-e Kavir - Top Iran Deserts

North of Dasht-e Lut is where Dasht-e Kavir is. Together, these deserts cover an area of over 360,000 square km. The two most extensive deserts in Iran stretch from the Alborz Mountains in the north to the edge of the Zagros Mountains in the southeast, where the Dasht-e Lut ends. The Great Salt Desert (Namak Lake) is another name for the Dasht-e Kavir.

As the name suggests, some parts of the desert are covered with salt. The salty ground comes from when central Iran was part of an ocean or sea millions of years ago. When the sea dried up, it left behind beautiful salt domes that amaze everyone who sees them.

2- Rige-e Jenn - Top Iran Deserts

Rige-e Jenn is a desert area in Dasht-e Kavir. It is also known as the Bermuda Triangle of Iran. This part of the world is one of the hardest to get through. It has never been on the route of the passing convoys, and there are no roads or villages in the area even today. Few researchers have looked into this area.

The Rig-e-Jen is most likely the most mysterious place in Iran. It is part of the Dasht-e Kavir and has many dunes. People thought the Rig-e-Jen desert was full of evil spirits (called Jen in Persian), so no one dared to go through it. Those who tried rarely survived because they didn’t know how to get there.

Rig-e-Jen was left alone for a long time. The first person to fly over the desert was in 1997, and the following year, he drove through the most mysterious deserts in Iran.

3- Dasht-E Lut - Top Iran Deserts

In 2016, UNESCO put the Dasht-E Lut on its list of world heritage sites. This desert is one of the hottest places in the world and the most desirable in Iran. It is an area in the southeast of Iran that is dry, lifeless, and calm.

The Dasht-e Lut differs from any other Iran desert. Travelers are the only ones who can see what’s inside. Looking at the Dasht-E Lut from above, we can see its true magical qualities. There are three different parts of the desert, each with a different view. Salt flats cover a low plateau in the east of the desert. The wind has made a series of parallel ridges and troughs in the middle. The Great Desert-like sands cover the western part.

4- The Maranjab Desert - Top Iran Deserts

The Maranjab desert is north of the city of “Aran va Bidgol” in the province of Isfahan. This desert is about 850 meters higher than sea level on average. You can’t get to this desert from Kashan without going through Aran and Bidgol first.

The Maranjab desert is one of the best places in the world for people who like to drive off-road. Most of the Desert comprises long sand hills, arch rainforests, salt lakes, Sabulous, and a breathtaking night sky. This desert is one of the best in Iran because it is quiet, has a lot of space, and has a beautiful night sky.

The Salt Lake in this desert is one of the most exciting things about it. During the rainy month, the lake only gets about 2 cm deep, but it dries up as soon as the sun comes out. Please stop by the Maranjab Caravanserai and relax in one of its classic rooms when you’re in the area. This building was built along the Silk Road, which connected the cities of Khorasan, Isfahan, and Ray.

5- Tabas Desert - Top Iran Deserts

The Tabas desert lies between the Dasht-e Lut and the Dasht-e Kavir. For the people of Iran, Tabas is linked to the 1980 failed U.S. operation Eagle Claw. However, Tabas has many things to offer visitors.

The Tabas desert is one of the best places to learn about local cultures, palm groves, salt marshes, and the beautiful landscape of Kal-Jenni, also called the Valley of Jen. The deep canyon, waterfalls, basins, narrow tunnels, and surprising green village in the middle of the desert that make up Kal-Jenni ensure that no one will leave the Tabas desert empty-handed.

6- Bafgh Desert - Top Iran Deserts

Like other deserts in the center of Iran, the Bafgh desert’s soil is salty, so it makes sense that there aren’t many plants in that area. In addition to the beauty of nature, visitors can enjoy camel riding and traditional Iranian tea houses. There are also some essential services, such as public bathrooms and restaurants.

7- Shahdad Desert - Top Iran Deserts

In the Shahdad desert, you can see one of the most incredible things in Iran and the entire world. Shahdad is a part of the Dasht-e Lut. Some strange buildings stretch from the middle of the Dasht-e Lut to the west. The Shahdad desert is right on the edge of the natural world and the world of fantasy.

This is especially true when people walk past sand dunes to see the world of fantasy that Kalouts made. The strong winds and high temperatures have carved these Kalouts out of the ground. When you get closer and see that the Kalouts are more than a hundred meters tall, the landscape seems even more out of place. Shahdad might be the hottest desert in Iran.

8- Sargardan Island - Top Iran Deserts

Sargardan Island is a beautiful island 15 km south of Namak Lake. Namak Lake is 707 meters above sea level on average, and Sargardan Island is 808 meters above sea level, making it the highest point on the lake. This island is made of volcanic rocks and has no animals on it.
One of the most amazing things in Dasht-e Kavir is standing on Sargardan Island and looking out over Namak Lake. Many world travelers, like Marco Polo and George Curzon, have said good things about Namak Lake and Sargardan Island.
